New Moderator!

Light-loser is a censoring prick!

Down with his propensity for killing off threads we've worked hard to waste time in!

It's not the only tribe he's been doing this in, you know what I'm talking about Light-losah!

I nominate Brent, for he is a prolific poster and a movie nut without parallel!

I'm afraid I have no idea what the controversy is.

I'll join whatever movie threads there are. I haven't been censored, so I don't know what you're referring to. Sorry.

Oh, yes you do, Craig in Arcata!

I saw you as a contributor to that thread - I remember recognizing some of your posts. As to which ones, well, you'll have to allow me to check the posts so that I can...

Oh yeah! That's right! THE ENTIRE THREAD WAS DELETED FOR NO GODDAMNED REASON!!!

C'mon, Craig in Arcata! Can't you see he needs to be stopped. He has a history - every tribe he moderates is prone to 'accidents'.

      No more, I say!

I extend my hand to you, Craig in Arcata. If the next moderator is someone in a coma, at least we can be assured there won't be any mysterious schenanigans. Let's keep this tribe as a record of our rememberences - not as a shrine to tyranny. That guy has killed his last post by myself...

If you want this to be a serious discussion, you need to speak rationally about whatever is going on. I recall a thread being deleted a month ago for no reason I am aware of but I may not have seen all the posts. I only read the group every few days so a lot could happen that I'm not aware of. So, I have no idea as to anything you might be referring to. How did we get our current moderator? Appointed by previous mod before leaving or what?

Rationality can be such a wet blanket to revolutionary procession...

But, you do make a compelling point. As to that, Light-smotherer has a disturbing and well documented history of deleting threads. One of the best threads of this tribe, in fact, was summarily executed at the apparent whim of our 'dear leader'; anyone remember the "Movie Quotes that have infiltrated your life" thread? Huh? Huh? Ehhh...

It was really fun sharing (and hearing) about the influences movie lines have on everyone's life. To make it extra poignant, reading those posts conveyed an immediate intimacy with those who chose to share in that forum. I felt close to, and strangely connected to, those people who read my entries, and shared their own. I am an expatriate, living in Mexico, and one of the urgent reasons for my involvement in Tribe is to speak English for awhile everyday. I implore you imagine the vehicles and means of establishing intimacy with another human being...it begins with shared experiences and instances (even pop culture references) about particular cultures that you've both experienced - although from differing viewpoints. I cannot speak of the comedic actors of the golden age of Mexican cinema - I grew up in the states. Now all those links, the exact devices, that precipitated a connection with a small group of seeming strangers is gone...

No explanation, no mea culpa, no remorse! I have seen his handy work at play in another tribe as well where any conflicting opinions to his own sacred cows are run down and terminated (with similar dismissive silence and smugness).

Now, back to the goal. I WANT BLOOD! WHO"S WITH ME?

Not any less smarmy is Light-killer's propensity for booting anyone who doesn't toe his line and march in lock-step to his blighted drumming...

My time may be short here. I hope that the struggle continues in the event of my ejection. May I have martryed myself so that you all may live in a better board...

Not feeling overly political at the moment, but this quote from Babylon-5 forever sticks with me, and I felt it apt, so I'm sharing:
Second Season closer, spoken by (former Ambassador) G'Kar to the League of Aligned Planets: "No dictator, no invader... can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, *we will be FREE!*"

I am conducting some inquiries, Hypno, about how our current 'moderator' came to lord over this fiefdom.

I think it may have been a normal takeover. I have no reason to think it was some hostile takeover or had a certain stink about it. But I'm not sure at this point. I'll get back to you with links to our so-called 'light-lover'...

Here's the King of Darkness' other tribe:

          morford.tribe.net/

It is a 3 year old tribe and it has one post! Any dissenting opinions have been wiped clean from the slate!

I think I'm fortuitous LL(light-loser) seems to be on break because he hasn't summarily shot and buried this thread!

Jumping in on behalf of Jim and the rest of us here who love movie quotes. I started that "Movie Quotes That Have Infiltrated Your Life" thread, and am sad to see it gone. Perhaps if light-dude could come in and explain his reasoning, we might have a better idea of why he's removing stuff.

And if no one else feels like stepping up, I'll be happy to moderate.

    Comrades:

Okay, I've read your grievances, and it sounds like a change of moderator is certainly a valid request. I just got back from 4 weeks at music camps in Mendocino and Romania, so my previous note about not knowing what the hell this is all about was really sincere. Without you all pointing it out missing threads, I think I would have thought to myself "Hm, I thought we talked about this or that." Now, I seem to see that there are threads missing and no really good explanation as to why. Seems a common courtesy to tell folks why a thread would be deleted.

As for deleting threads or opinions or whatnot, I find that very strange (though I'm not quite in the lather that jim is in.) Deletion seems totally unnecessary unless the Tribe gods are losing their storage space (which, admittedly, seems to happen on occasion.)

Okay, I think I support the will of the masses for a new moderator. In a separate message, I was asked to step up. I wouldn't mind. I just need to brush up on my "moderator" protocol/rulebook/sacred duties stuff. Sounds like Brent has good backing, though.

    I'm easy.

Jim, you lead the charge so loudly, I'm apt to vote for you, but if you _really_ don't want the post and are simply crying for change, I'll back Jay. My typical reaction is to nominate the person who least wants the job but seems qualified for it at the same time, on the basis that they'll do such a bang-up job that it no longer needs to be done, or that they can be trusted for integrity based on their impartiality. But then, I'm a Libertarian at heart, so you know automatically I'm going to be wacky somehow....

I joined this tribe 4 years ago and I've never seen anything here that needed moderating, ever.

Since our current moderator has declined to offer any words in his defense or even apologies, we need a new one.

            Jay is fine with me.

if our moderator could moderate moderation then he would be a miracle moderation worker.
but what's the rush. itz fine. right?

      Craig et al.,

'Blight-lover' does not have to resign. There seems a clear consensus that Jay can be Moderator. What happens now is that Jay simply writes an email addressed to help@tribe.net with the subject line "New Moderator - <<World's Best Movie Quotes>>". Jay, make sure you include the following link, as well, in the body of the text of the email:

      moviequotes.tribe.net/thread/...7893260a

Then the council of overlords at Tribe looks over the links, checks the voting chain for irregularities, pushes the appropriate button and then we are free at last, thank god almighty we'll be free at last...

Jay is our guy. How appropriate too, since he created the thread that was deleted and led this fine band into open revolutionary warfare.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the support!

I have just been made the new moderator of this tribe!

I promise to censor nothing at all (unless it's like really hateful or way off-topic or bla bla bla).

To quote one of my favorite new quotable movies, 'Bubble Boy' -- I feel Bright and Shiiiiiiiiny!

            Point of parliamentary proceedure:

The deadbeat, FORMER-moderator had set the tribe so that no one but himself could accept people into the tribe. I wish to invite a former member who was booted but the group controls are still set at the "Megalomaniac" levels of Spite-lover...

Could you go into the Mod controls and change it to allow invitations from the tribe members?
